Why Families Should Explore Early

Programs may require school choice, magnet applications, course prerequisites, or a specific multi-year sequence. Waiting until the final year of high school may limit what a student can complete.

Program quality

How to Find the Right Program

Do not assume the nearest school offers the complete sequence.
Family checklist

Start with the district CTE page

Search for cybersecurity, network security, computer science, information technology, Linux, networking, digital forensics, or cyber defense.

Identify the school and entry process

Check whether the program is at the assigned school, a magnet or choice school, a technical academy, a shared campus, or another district location.

Review the full course sequence

Ask which course students take first, how many years are required, prerequisites, grade-level entry points, and what happens if a student transfers.

Check deadlines and transportation

Application windows, open houses, lottery rules, transportation, and schedule conflicts may affect access.

Ask what students finish with

Look for credentials, college credit, capstone work, internships, competition experience, portfolio evidence, and connections to the next step.

Talk with the right people

Speak with the CTE teacher, school counselor, district CTE office, current students, and families—not only the general enrollment office.
